Yazoo City Miss.,
July 22 1867

Statement of Freedmen wo are in the employ of Harry Gilmore of Yazoo County Miss.--

We the undersigned Freedmen would respectfully to the Military Authorities of his Dist certain grievances and restrictions of which we think we have just reason to complain.  A the time the Boards of Registration was in the precinct to which we belong and should have registered in we were told by our employer Col Harry Gilmore that it made no difference to us whether we were registered or not and by his representing that politics were something that we were not much interested in we were kept from registering.  After the Registrars had left the precinct the Agent of the Bu. R.F.+A.L. visiting the plantation of Col. Gilmore and after his representation wee wished to register  and we were informed by him that the Registrars would be at Yazoo City and that we would have the privilege of Registering there and told us in presence of Col. Gilmore that we could go and be protected in so doing.  The boards commenced registering at this place this day July 22nd 1867, We expressed our desire to Col. Gilmore yesterday
