War Department, Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands, Washington, May 19th 1868 Brevet Major General A.C. Gillen Assistant Commissioner Vicksburg, Miss. General: The Commissioner directs me to enclose a request from Mr. O. Clayton Pendleton that the Bureau take possession at a nominal rent of that portion of the property described herein situated in or near Natchez in Adams County. So far as can be learned, the estate of Mrs. Ogden has passed into the hands of a Mr. Metcalf, of Natchez, as Administrator and Mr. Pendleton says that the Administrator will give possession to the Bureau. It is to be held for a year at a nominal rent. It may be used for such purpose as you may think best.
