Gen. O. O. Howard

General
As stated to you in conversation yesterday, I was a prisoner 13 months during the war and for a part of that time Maj. James M. Barnes of Anderson Texas Commanded the prison camp. Amid the generally admitted horrors of Rebel Imprisonment I am able and happy to point to an honorable reception. No man in like circumstances would have behaved better than Maj. Barnes and I think that my fellow prisoners will unite with me in saying that he behaved like a true Christian soldier and gentleman. Finally I have the most implicit confidence in his integrity and command him to you accordingly.
Respectfully
Charles C Nott. Judge C.C.
