Raleigh, N. C. November 30th, 1868

Sir:- 

I have the honor to report that in compliance with Circular Letter from your office dated September 27th 1867 I have just completed the reduction of the Medical Establishment in this district.
The Hospitals at New Berne, Wilmington, Raleigh and Charlotte have all been closed, and the bedding, clothing, and furniture pertaining thereto have been turned over to Dr. Fleming at New Berne for sale by public auction.  A General Hospital has been established at Salisbury N.C. under the charge of A.A. Surg'n Bell and to it have been transferred such patients from the other stations as were infirm or permanently disabled,  The number of this class being forty-five.
The location of the Hospital is good, and when some necessary repairs have been effected the establishment will be in every way suited for its purpose.  There is a fine garden patch and this will be effectively worked in the coming season.
