would eventually approve of my part. (That may well appear as "Up from 'Sterile.'")

By the way, recently, Lucy R.L. asked me to contribute to her forthcoming historic essay of light in art. You will have to admit that her interest reveals either a reversal of opinion or an ethical perversion. I have to believe the former. After a long examination of my exposition with Annalee, Barnett Newman drew me by the arm to accompany him to respond to sensitive questions and to listen to a personal critique of what I have attempted. Of course, it takes a man, a peer of Newman's intelligent, [[strikethrough]] emoth [[/strikethrough]] emotional experience and individual capacity for affection to perform such a feat. Also, some of Newman's most effective responses were of unspoken gesture glance and smile, etc. -- what cannot be written about.

It would seem that Mel Bochner may not write for your magazine because Max believes that he represents an "ism-matic" opinion within a current "primary structurist" fad of which Max does not approve. In that, I feel as [[strikethrough]] as [[/strikethrough]] sorry for Max's safety as he does but, Max misjudges his "competition" too easily (or too well, for all that I know).
