Dear Dan,

THanks for your note; nope, I dont think an invitation from me to you to comment "at legnth" on the Sunday piece will be fruitful for either of us. Already, your not-comments shine a beacon into the deeps that divide us. For one thing, I was in no way Attempting To Be Kind. For another, you cant seem to take hold of the idea that I can admire certain critics ("contemporary artistic attitudes") and also not be identical with them: when I'm not identical with them you have to see me as "posing the anachronistic opposition." Since this leads you immediately into a fundamental distrust of my views -- they are all "poses" except when I behave as you predict -- I see no sense or enrighment in requesting a legnthier version. As I recall it, it was in the same "pose" that I printed your material, secretly hating it, of course, as I must have the work at Dwan. I was in L.A. last week; Miss Blossom also took to you.

It's customary to request permission of the original publishers when reprinting; I;m not surprised that you did not. Another courtesy is, upon receiving permission, to indicate that the item is being re-printed, giving the original source. I would take it that the new edition of "...on an American artist's education" will not contain that either, being a Multiple and all.
It would seem to me that if Barbara Rose is planning a re-evaluation of light art,
