Dear Mr. Wagstaff,

Thank you for accepting the diagonal for your exhibition.

I want to alleviate your quandry and the anticipated "hostility" of your audience if I can. I have written a succinct statement about the diagonal (enclosed on another paper) which you might use at your discretion.

I have found in the past that I regret such remarks later, but I feel that I want to help you now no matter how insignificant and troublesome this statement may become for me in the future.

It might also be useful to you if I matted the tiny work diagram of the diagonal for you. The drawing could become a plausible adjunct to the object itself - a relevant exposition of my way of thinking.
