To Piv? Welonski: Sculptor, Rome.

Why do men carve these images of stone?-
Is it for those who stare and flock about?-
There are, alas,- who carve for those alone,
dependent on the world's approving shout
But some, whose life it is thro' [[strikethrough]] flying days,
To wrest from that [[strikethrough]] rude stone the truth that waits,
Carve dumbly on, nor [[strikethrough]] ask for human praise,
Knowing, the God within still compensates.
