[1936] Tuesday Dear Mother: I've neglected you badly, but have been terribly busy - gave five dinners last week, and a breakfast besides! Let's see - Hearky and somebody else were here Wednesday, Mrs. Garst Thursday, Bill Edy Friday, no, I mean Mrs. Lucian Stark and Vernon, and Tony and another fellow from the office on Saturday (Burton's going-away party) and then Sunday Mrs. Shaw and J-, I mean Monica, on Sunday. Janet is now officially changed to Monica Briget. She's much improved, incidentally - getting tall and lanky with large buck teeth, but less annoying. Mrs. Shaw is teaching in a sort of relief school, and of course it is devastating. She sent her regards to you, and is going to write. The third issue comes out tomorrow, and I'll be sure to send you copies of both the second and third. You are on the mailing list, and everybody else on it gets their books, but I'll send you them personally this time. The book I referred you to is "IN Dubious Battle", not in nubians' battle, though my handwriting is bad! Mrs. Garst is going to have the Aggers and us up at the same time. As regards birthdays, don't put yourself out - you need the money worse than we do presents! Willy is in fine condition, though getting spoiled. He sits on his little Toidey and thinks it great sport, though he hasn't caught on what it's for yet! He splashes around in the big bathtub and quite enjoys himself. He can sit up by himself, but not very well. He's strong as the dickens, and loves to have you "walk" him. We're looking around for a pup now. The little cocker downstairs comes up all the time and is very cute. His owner, one Born Eaton (really!) went to Stanford and knows the Websters very well. to say nothi [[strikethrough]] e [[/strikethrough]] ng of
