Dear Family:

Let's see, what have I done since I wrote to you? This week Helena Rubinstein ( the Princess - 20 million bucks) came to see us. [[missing]] now on her third prince. She bought a watercolor from Diego and gave Frida and me each a lipstick. She wants me to drive her to Guadalahara when she comes back in December.

A Chinese archeoligist, Dr. Ching Tzai Loo, has been here for the last few weeks - he is an authority on Chinese art and history, and has the largest collection of Jades in the world. He wants to go back to the states before leaving for China, but his passport only permits him to leave, not to return - which is causing him some difficulty - I took him down and introduced him to Daniels, hoping he might get him a visa more easily, which didnt work, as Daniels only sent us to an attache who had to wire Washington about it. Dr. Loo, Blanche Hays (and American woman, writes articles, is probably working for British Intelligence) Carlos Chavez and Che Hidalgo came out to lunch the other day at Frida's - Carlos looks rather unhappy and seedy- he has a nervous disease of the right arm, a professional ailment which also troubles Stokowski, a sort of atrophy for which no one has found any cure, andit worries him considerably. Leonard Lyons and wife were here the other day - he is the collumnist I met in new York with Frankie and Judge Pecora. Diego and I had dinner with them one night, and he took down the story of the fight with Trotsky. I saw them later, and they were very enthusiastic about Diego - said he was the only person in Mexico who didnt disappoint them. Lyons said the way he shifts his gun aroundin his pocket at restaurants reminds him of Winchell. I gave them some salt cellars to take back to Frankie, who had requested them.

Am going with Frida tonight as guestof Blanche and Dr. Loo, to see Ladies in Retirement, a play in english which is being put on in Bellas Artes, and which I think Orlando Webber and Irene Bojus are in - they have disappeared completely during the last few months - moved away from San Angel without saying a word.

Just got you letter this morning (Monday). Glad Emily likes my pictures. Have many more since those. About the house - my plans are so completely indefinite that I suggest you rent the house according to your plans only, as I can always find some place to stay, and have no idea how long or when I'll be there. The Sinarquistas official name is Accionn Nacional Sinarquista, and Diego gives a full account of them in the paper on Oumansky. I gave a copy of that paper to Lyons. He writes The Lyons Den, and copies Winchell, and is copied by Herb Caen.

Well, enough for now. Must get to work.

Lots of love,
Emmy Lou

P.S. Could you get about 10 yards of the largest & brightest plaid (cotton flannel or something) you can find and send it to us to make shirts for D ?
