Besides her work as an artist, she has also involved herself in the world around her. During the war, she contributed her time and energy, including working in a defense plant detailing airplane parts; she has served on the Artists' Council of the San Francisco Art Association, was co-chairman and organizer of Artists' Equity, served on the San Francisco Art Commission and has worked with students on a variety of art projects.
Critics have acclaimed her work. Diego Rivera found in her work, "truth and character." California Arts and Architecture magazine found "her fine sense of abstraction and design, dramatic color and free brushwork equal to anything she undertakes," and Frankenstein, the San Francisco art critic, has said "her paintings are the product of a brilliant and positive personality."
Her work, and her life, have, in the words of Diego Rivera, "born fruit."
