My study could, if all goes well, be a valuable contribution. I talked over the plan with Lloyd Goodrich, director of the American Art Research Council, before submitting it, and he said that such a work would be an indispensable reference work for any one working in the American field. I hope to have his advice as I make the study.

At present I have to finish the teaching year, get myself in shape, and make a few improvements in my apartment so that it will be easier to work here. I hope to get some vacation, as I haven't had one since 1940 and am a little tired. Then I'll just have to settle down to a long hard pull of work. First of all, I mustn't get overcome at the amount of work facing me.

I hope your cold is better. Please take care of it, as some strange kind of bug seems to be about.

It would be fine if Ross, Jr., got the Annapolis appointment, and I hope he does, because after the war technically trained men and women will be much needed for rebuilding the world.

Must stop, as I have a lot of letters to answer.

With much love
E
