SCULPTURE FOR PEOPLE
(HOUSING PROJECTS, COMMUNITY CENTERS, ETC.)

I have learned from unsophisticated sources that people can enjoy sculpture in two ways without any art education. This pertains equally to subjects they are or are not familiar with.

I. PEOPLE LIKE PICTORAL SCENES SHOWING FACTORY WROKERS, FARMERS, FAMILY LIFE, BUSINESS MEN, BOATMEN, CITY DWELLERS, ETC. They like to see how these people appear in action, what their facial expressions are like, and what they wear. They could see this much in photographs, but to them, sculptured figures [[strikethrough]] are [[/strikethrough]] in the round [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] are [[strikethrough]] therefore [[/strikethrough]] more real. If the sculpture is in color, it is still more [[strikethrough]] real [[/strikethrough]]. ALIVE [[strikethrough]] alive and appealing. [[/strikethrough]] [[strikethrough]] Don't you mean appealing? or enjoyable? [[/strikethrough]] ER.1

EXAMPLES: (1) Upon seeing sculptor Carl Mille[[crossed out]]r[[/crossed out]]'s bronze doors at the entrance of the [[circled]] STATE FINANCE [[/circled]] BUILDING, Building, Harrisburg, Pa., Annie's reaction was that she longed for a photograph of one part. It was of a woman kneeling while her woodsman husband worked beside her. Annie read into it that the woma[[crossed out]]s[[/crossed out]]n was praying for a child, because Annie has only one child and has always wanted another one. 92) Florence's reaction to these doors
