National Academy of Design,
New-York, 12 April 1865

To Prof S. F. B. Morse N.A.

Dear Sir

I had the honour some days ago of communicating to you the thanks of the Council for your valuable gifts of a portrait of Washington Aliston by the late C R Leslie and of the last pencil ever used by the former illustrious artist.

It is now my very pleasant duty to say that your treasured offerings and the letter which accompanied them were presented to the Academicians at their Annual Meeting on Wednesday last, when they were received with hearty acclamation and, - upon motion of Mr [[Lenlys?]], with a unanimous note of thanks

With sincere regret, dear Sir, on behalf of the body and for myself personally, that you were not able to be with us, on the occasion to receive the good wishes and congratulations of your fellow Academicians, in person

I am with high respect
Your friend and servant
T. Addison Richards
