Extracts from the Report of Thos C. Griffin, Sub. Asst. Comsr. at Kaufman for the month of July 1868.

On or about the 14 of July 1868 a desperado (name unknown) rode into Judge Hardin Harts house in Greenville, Hunt Co. at the same time using very abusive language in the presence of his family, whereupon Judge Hart shot and killed the desperado. Judge H. has been tried by Civil Authority and acquitted. 
The desperado is said to be one of Lee's gang 

On the 25 of July 1868. Martin Hart (nephew of Judge Hart) while passing from his residence in company with his Wife to visit a neighbor, was shot from the bush by some person unknown. 

On the 29 of July 1868. Robert Ayres (f.m) was shot and killed at his own door by two white men names unknown.
