Accordingly Maj Runkle held an enquiry. I understand very many witnesses were examined pro & con,- the clerking was done under oath, by a Mr. Hogue, a writer in the Bureau.
The modus was Maj Runkle swore the witness and clerk - put the questions to the witness - took down in lead pencil, the answers, or so much thereof as he pleased and then handed the sheet to Mr. Hogue to transcribe in ink at leisure.
What the evidence was, is unknown to us - as every obstacle was thrown in the way of hearing
