New York 22, New York

February 9, 1960

Dear Miss Boggs:

How truly disappointed I was to hear that you were laid up and thus unable to drop in at my galleries while you were in New York. It would have given me much pleasure indeed to see you again after so many years.

It would also have pleased you, I believe, to see a drawing by Degas which I just acquired, and very much in your line of interest as it is a portrait. I am sending a photograph of it, herein, as I am certain that you would like to have it for your files.

It was included in the fourth Degas Auction, $100 (d) and also exhibited at the Degas exhibition, Paris, Orangerie, 1931, #115. As you will notice, it is dated 1867; thus a comparatively early work. And in fact, I was wondering if it could not be linked with one of the Italian members of his family.

No one is better qualified than you to state whether my assumption is correct. Though the face seems so very familiar to me, I have been unable to identify it and I am wondering whether you have any idea on this subject. Were you able to do so, may I ask you to be good enough to impart the information for which I would be much obliged to you.

Hoping you have now completely recovered from your attack of the flu and with all good wishes,

Sincerely yours,

Germain Seligman
