February [[strikethrough]] 17 [[/strikethrough]] 16, 1949

Dear Mrs. Sperry:
Your very interesting lines of February 14th., have just reached me, and I hasten to let you know that I will be indeed delighted to lend the study in oil for "La Parade" by Seurat to your exhibition.

This is, however, with the proviso that it will be back in New York by April 14th., which I feel should not hamper you too much, as by shipping it on the 9th., or perhaps even the 10th., it should reach here within this time limit.

In fact, I would like you to send it directly to Messrs. M. Knoedler & Co., 14 East 57th. St. The reason for this is that already a few weeks ago, at Mr. Stephen C. Clark's request, I promised to lend this painting, along with other works by Seurat, to an exhibition they are organizing. I do hope you will not mind this slight complication, as it is part of my firm's policies to cooperate to the fullest with museums and education institutions. I would be sorry, therefore, should you feel that my letter did not reflect this.

I personally have always been much interested in the Cranbrook Foundation, as I saw its inception when Mr. George Booth established it, hence my very best wishes accompany all your undertakings.

I note that you will take care of the packing and transportation. I shall on the other hand gladly assume the insurance.

Sincerely yours,
(Germain Seligman)
