FOUR ARCHITECTURAL EXHIBITIONS

The first exhibition of the current season consists of a series of four exhibits that cover the whole range of the problem of modern architecture. These exhibits, made available by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, are: "What is Modern Architecture?", "Modern House in America", "A New House by Frank Lloyd Wright", and "Modern Architecture in England." They consist of large, clear photographs, diagrams, plans and explanatory labels, colorfully mounted.

Already a great deal of interest has been shown in this exhibition, since it graphically demonstrates that modern architecture is not an arbitrary stye, but a logical development in building, brought about by changed living conditions, new methods of construction, and new materials. America has a surprising number of well-planned modern houses, in a variety of materials, design and price range. These clearly illustrate that modern architecture can furnish beautiful, as well as efficient solutions to contemporary living requirements. The "Now House" by Frank Lloyd Wright reveals anew his genius and his imagination. Spectacularly cantilevered out over a rushing mountain stream, the house incorporates the waterfall into itself, and the result is an astounding unity between nature and dwelling. "Modern Architecture in England" present all sorts of buildings which have been produced by the large group of "modern" architects working in that country. There are houses nestled into the charming English countryside, Pavilions and Hospitals that float with sun and air, a zoo, factories, and many other buildings, as well as recent housing developments. (On view until October 25.)
