Dear Harold:

To my chagrin I was unable to attend the opening of the Dutch Drawings at the Morgan Library, and this all the more as Ethlyne told me of several of our friends who were there, and you particularly among them. I was hoping that you would have had a few minutes to droppin to see me, just to say hello, but I assume that, as usual, on such a short visit you were kept pretty busy.

I thus do hope that ere long another opportunity will afford you the excuse for returning here.
Having the occasion of writing may I trouble you with a request. Not wishing to disturb you, my research assistant, Mrs. C. Cooney wrote on September 6th to your Registrar, Mr. Wallace D. Bradway asking for a photograph of the "Portrait of Marie Ensor" by James Ensor, which I saw mentioned in the catalogue of the exhibition held at the Krannert Art Museum.

Having received no answer, may I appeal to you to be good enough to let me have this print for comparison purposes, with a portrait by ENSOR I just acquired, and which I believe is of the same date as yours.

I do hope you will not mind my writing you in this vein and may I thank you in advance for your courtesy.

A topic I would have liked to broach is the Toronto exhibition, in which you figure majestically. Ethlyne and I went especially to see it, between two planes, and I admit that I was greatly impressed with the selection Pierre Rosenberg achieved. And, of course, his catalogue is truly an encyclopedia.

With warm regards,
Yours,
Germain Seligman
