New York 22, New York

Dear Germain:

I am disappointed that I shall not make New York on this trip east. the facts are these: my venerable mother has been visiting us recently, and being quite lame and infirm I am motoring her back to Boston by slow stages this week-end. Then Tuesday I do jury duty on the Boston Art Festival Show in Boston this coming week, spending the remaining days with a few items at the various museums saved up for the occasion.

Though Harry will be finishing Harvard the end of next week and will return by car, via New York, I have planned to fly home Saturday since there are so many things which need doing here, especially as we are to hold a memorial exhibition for the deceased Cleveland painter, Carl Gaertner, this late June, and I should be here throughout.

If for any reason I find hat plans change and that I come with Harry, I shall certainly let you know.

Europe, sad to say for us, already planned, is out; we simply cannot afford it on our own pocket book which it would have to be this season. So we have reluctantly given up all such idea. If I do not see you both, I hope you have a perfect trip as always. We shall certainly think of you.

With warmest from both Frances and myself,

Faithfully yours,
Henry
