Now behold my claim has been sent back to Washington City for a second or third approval, which were returned to Col Beecher of Montgomery with instructions to pay me whatever he thought was right in the premises he wrote me that he thought $250, would be about right. I then wrote back to him that inasmuch as my claim has been approved and ordered to be paid I did not know why they should scale it down to $250, he then wrote me he would then raise it to $300.
Now my Dear sir there are the facts in the case which I can substantiate both by white and cold to your satisfaction. I appeal to you as an honest man to give me what is justly done me for my hard earned services which is $660. If in your Judgemt you think different send me whatever you think is right I will have put up with what i can get. If you want to investigate the case any further [[?]] & sample of Montgomery has some of my papers that I think have never been sent up. Please let me here from you as I am in great need having lost all by the unholy struggle and an old man.
