DESIGNATED DEPOSITARY AND FISCAL AGENT OF THE U.S
EVANSVILLE, IND.; August 30th, 1869.

Hon F E Spinner
Treasurer of United States
Washington DC

Your favor of the 27th instant is received and contents noted.

The deposit made by Col Runkle of Louisville in the First National Bank of this City was made by him under the impression that the First National Bank was still a United States Depository.

As soon as Col Runkle of Louisville discovered the error he promptly removed the deposit from that Bank to this one.

I write this in justice to Colonel Runkle and ask that the proper explanation be made to the War Department. The matter is now correct and was done under a misapprehension.

We would be sorry to cause any blame to be attached to Col Runkle through an error. Hoping you will be kind enough to refer this letter to the War Dept remain

Yours very respectfully
JGKennedy
