Sir:

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 1st inst and in compliance with your request the papers referred to therein are herewith returned.

The records of the Assistant Commissioner, Bu R F and A L, now on file at the office, show under date of January 29th 1869, that you were informed that the sum of $58.00/100 could be paid for repairs on the Shelbyville School House -

And on the second 2nd of February, 1869, a letter was sent to Mr. Houston, Supt of Public Instruction for Bedford Co. Tenn. notifying him that. the appropriation for repairs on the School house had been suspended by the. Assistant Commissioner he not deeming it advisable to expend any money in the (then) present condition of affairs at this point.

On the 20th day of April 1869, a communication was received from. Mr Houston, in which he withdraws his recommendation in behalf of your school, and desires that. the appropriation be made to another project, for the benefit of the Colored People. at. Shelbyville Tenn.

The receipted Vouchers forwarded by you. are for the sum of #482.60/100 while your sub-vouchers (or receipted bills) only show an expenditure of [[smudged]] which sum is in excess of the appropriation of Jany 29, 69. #156.77/100.

I have since learned that the lot upon which the. building is located has not been paid for there still being due upon the same the sum of
