yards. the Lard and Bacon stolen was worth two hundred Dollars. - The prisoners were all living within four Miles of witnesses house, - There is a fence between the Smoke House and yard and there were signs of the meat having been laid on the fence between the Smoke House and road. 

Cross Examined,. 
Witness saw no tracks that resembled white man's tracks, did not try to follow the track of the Wagon next morning, because a hard Rain had fallen during the night and the road was full of water. there had been ground Peas planted on the ground when witness saw the tracks and it had been rooted up by hogs. - It rained all night. his attention was not called to Jim that night. Jim always slept in the house with Witness, They first went to Major without arrest and he told them all about it. does not think Major was arrested if he was he was released. Witness never found any of the meat or Lard. he expects search was made for it by the parties arresting the Negroes. they were arrested on Monday and perhaps some of them on Tuesday after the Smoke House was broken open. Major told all about it the next morning early and before he was arrested or a warrant was issued. the Smoke house was broken on a very dark night.

Witness supposes from the number of tracks that there were some eight or ten persons in the yard. did
