0384 [[stamp]] THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF THE UNITED STATES [[/stamp]] 2 Patrick. Cashier. for state. Sworn. My statements are the same as Nichols. I would add that the largest of the two cold men was very anxious and tried to make the other go away all the time, and done all he could to present a difficulty. The smallest man had on oil cloth coat. The other I don't think had one on. Wm. J White cold, for the state. Sworn. I live about one hundred yards from where Mason was killed, he was killed the night of the 27th Feb last about 10½ O.clock, heard the firing of a pistol very distinctly, and two caps snap immediately after, I opened my front door and saw two men and at least two women standing where Mason was shot. did not learn that night that any one was shot. I think immediately after the firing I heard something like rattling at a gate, and one to say God damn you I will bury you, but am not positive as to the remark used. Immediately after that one of the two men started off towards Fenwick street in a run the other call'd him, call'd him Mitchel, said Mitchel bring that Pistol back, following him and asking him what he was running for and overtook him, and they both returned to where the man was murdered, after remaining there a very short time, they both ran off. I never saw them any more, don't know either of the parties could not recognize them or either of them, can't say from the voice of the low man whether he was a low country Black man or an Irishman, can't say if the two men I saw were White or black.
