Dear Mr. Mack:-

Two months ago we sent you our previous report. We believe our present report more than justifies the great hopes that we held out to you at that time concerning the Portrait of America Competition.

3216 artists sent us postcards declaring their intention to participate. The actual number of works received, as far as we can calculate at this time, is somewhere between 4300 and 5000 (they are in the process of tabulation).

Every state except Wyoming was represented, also Alaska, Canal Zone, District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

Pictures from men and women in all branches of the Services: Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Air Force, Coats Guard, WAC and Red Cross are included.

/We pay special tribute to the Jury of Selection for assembling an excellent exhibition. Reginal Marsh was the efficient and exacting Chairman of this Jury. Jon Corbino, Max Weber, Philip Evergood, Isabel Bishop, Doris Rosenthal, Peter Blume/ and Gifford Beal were the hardest working members of the Jury. It is fitting to mention the name of our President, Arthur Crisp, who spent his time (and some of your money) keeping the Jury cheerful and in good working spirits.

The Exhibition itself is much more effective in praising the Jury then anything I can say. It is a fine Exhibition.

The Jury of Awards met yesterday. It consists of John Abbott of the Museum of Modern Art, Henri Marceau of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Roland McKinney of the Los Angeles County Museum, Emily Genauer, Peyton Boswell,
