THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART
NEW YORK

Office of the Secretary

EXTRACT from the minutes of the meeting of the BOARD OF TRUSTEES held June 12, 1944.

The Director reported that he and the Vice-Director had carefully examined the paintings selected by the juries for the proposed exhibition "Portrait of America" organized by Artists for Victory Inc., under the sponsorship of the Pepsi-Cola Company, and that they had found the one hundred and fifty workers chosen constituted a representative group of contemporary works entirely acceptable for initial exhibition in the Museum opening during the month of October. He therfore [[therefore]] recommended the following resolution, which was proposed by Mr. Nichols duly seconded and adopted:
RESOLVED: That the Board of Trustees authorize the Director to accept for exhibition the group of contemporary American paintings "Portrait of America", organized by Artists for Victory Inc., under the sponsorship of the Pepsi-Cola Company, it being understood that Artists for Victory Inc., will assume full responsibility for the paintings at all times while in the building and all expenses of the exhibition except those incidental to hanging it in the Museum.
