with Dr. Michael White and the Original Liberty Jazz Band in a special concert honoring the centennial. The Sunday, October 13, concert by French-born Jacques Gauthé, at 3 p.m., will focus on Bechet's compositions and other music he recorded, performed by some of New Orleans' top jazz musicians. On Sunday, October 28, the final tribute to Sidney Bechet will highlight the music and some of the musicians, such as Duke Ellington, he influenced in his long career. This final concert will be offered at 2 and 3 p.m. The concerts are free with Museum admission and seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets for these concerts may be obtained one hour prior to each musical event. The jazz series is sponsored by Philip Morris Companies Inc. and Miller Brewing Company.

Sunday, September 15

Family Workshop, 2 to 4 p.m., Brooomm: A Sweep of Color - Focusing on the paintings of Ed Clark in Explorations in the City of Light, participants in this workshop will capture the artist's bold movements of color by using brooms and wide brushes. Dress for a mess! The workshop cost is $5 per family for Museum members, or $6 per family plus the cost of admission for non-members. Fees include all art materials. Family workshops are designed for children ages 5 to 12 with at least one adult companion. Preregistration is necessary; call (504)488-2631, extention 639.

Lecture, 3 p.m., Patricia Cruz, Explorations and Interactions: African-American Artists, the Museum and the World - Cruz, deputy director for programs at The Studio Museum in Harlem, will give this slide presentation on issues related to Explorations in the City of Light. Stern Auditorium, free with Museum admission.
