Dear Shirley:

I am writing to inform you that The Studio Museum in Harlem will be returning the artworks included in the exhibition Explorations in the City of Light: African-American Artists in Paris, 1945-1965 to their lenders. Consultant Geri Thomas will be contacting you to make the appropriate arrangements for shipping your artwork(s).

While the museum wanted to extend the tour of the exhibition, conflicts in scheduled made it impossible to secure additional American and European venues. However, we are still negotiating with several French venues who are interested in the exhibition for their institutions. If one of these venues can place the exhibition on their schedule within the year, we will contact you to request the loan of your artwork(s) so the The Studio Museum can reassemble Explorations in the City of Light: African-American Artists in Paris, 1945-1965 for its presentation abroad. Due to the significance of France for the subject of the exhibition, we know that you understand our need to investigate every opportunity to exhibit the show there.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me at The Studio Museum on ext. 234. We appreciate your cooperation. Enclosed you'll find additional critical reviews of the exhibition.

I'll be in touch. Enjoy your summer.

Sincerely,

Valerie J. Mercer
