Dear Shu:

Cornell called me last Thursday evening in Houston and advised me of your resignation. I was appreciative of his consideration in calling me instead of my finding out by a Press Bulletin. UPon my return from Houston I received your note with a copy of your letter to Cornell formally submitting your resignation. I am indeed grateful to you for this letter and your note. Shu, This news was received with mixed emotions. The longer I think about it I find myself becoming very sad. The sadness stems from the idea that your resignation sounds so very final. This disturbs Bobby and me very much, and I am sure many other people connected our organization. You probably recall my mentioning to you and Hood that Knoll was, and always would be a great company if you were a part of it. If you were not, it is very possible it would become just another company. I am sure all of us at Knoll will tighten out belts in an effort to maintain our high quality of design and manufacturing, as well as integrity. But, in analyzing this whole matter it is quite evident to me that there is only one Florence Knoll Bassett and she can never be fully replaced. One the other hand, looking at the brighter side, you have a big responsibility to Hood fulfilling your role as his wife. Needless to say, if there is any couple that
