I wished to talk with you about purchasing one or two of your Gothic Madonnas.

As The Maiden is large to place in my narrow hall, I happened to remark to Mr. Samuels that I wondered if I could make some sort of a trade with you. I am sorry that he gave you the impression that I wished to part with the statue.

I have promised to send the Della Robbia to the Cleveland Museum, and it is to be shipped on Wednesday. Owing to the risk of breakage, I regret having consented to loan it to the Exhibition.

Sincerely yours,

Elma Dows Thaw
