My dear Mrs. Thaw:

My verbal answer sent by your messenger was that if I could get away I would be at your house about the hour given to your man. I found it impossible for me to get down and write you this so you will know the actual arrangement made, that it was only if I could possibly get through and that you will not hold me for a broken engagement.

Mr. Samuels tells me that you wish to part with the Maiden and I presume that this is why you wished to see me at your house.

I am at work for several days over in Brooklyn on the Lincoln in the wax or I would come to see you today.

I hope your Della Robbia, will not be broken in transit. I find these exhibitions to be noteworthy things, but very risky for important pieces such as yours in Terra Cotta and as I told you some weeks ago, I consider it hazardous to ship this piece, especially because of the weight ruining the pedestal.

Very sincerely yours

GGB-
