Dear Mr.Nakashima: 

I talked to our engineers about home videotape recorders. There are two formats VHS and BETA, and in terms of video signal (picture) they are comparable. 

VHS machines are all made by JVC whether marketed by them or not. BETA machines are all made by Sony and are marked by Sears and Zenith, possibly a few others. 

When you shop you should look for the features that suit your needs in relation to the price you want to pay. Go for the best price. 

The engineer I talked to said he expects prices to go down even more towards the end of the year. You might want to wait for end of year sales. 

Hope this helps you a little in selecting the machine you want.
