This agreement made this 28th day of April A.D. 1870. Between J.B. Healy of Opelika Lee Co Alabama of the first part and Edwin Beecher Superintendent of Education for Alabama Bu R.F. & A.L of the second part.

Witnesseth: That for the consideration hereinafter named the said party of the first part hereby agrees to furnish all material, and perform the labor in constructing a School House for Colored Children or for school irrespective of color on a lot in the town of Opelika Lee Co Ala secured for Colored Schools or for schools irrespective of color and which work is more particularly described in specification hereto annexed (which all adopted by said contracting parties as a part of this contract.  The work on said building to commence as soon as this contract is approved by the Commissioner of the Bureau R F A Land shall be completed on or before the 15th day of June 1870

In consideration whereof the said party of the second part who contracts for and on behalf of the United States agrees, when materials are furnished for, or labor performed on said building of the value of Two hundred and fifty dollars, to pay or cause to be paid to said first party the sum of Two hundred dollars and on the further furnishing of materials for, in labor performed on said building of the value of Two hundred and fifty dollars the said second party agrees to pay to said first party the further sum of Two hundred dollars and in like manner until the said party of the first part has received the sum of One thousand dollars.

It is expressly agreed that no Member of Congress shall be [aducested?] to any share in this contract or to any benefit insuing hereforward.
