induce our committee to consent to your proposition to put $8000 of the $13000 at Columbia & the other $5000 at Augusta, it will relieve matters somewhat. But $5000 will not begin to do what we want in the way of a building at Augusta. Our friends there & here, keep calling our attention to the large things you did for Atlanta, & there is a serious dissatisfaction that we cannot have at least $10,000 for the Augusta interest.

Now, if in closing up, you could by any possibility add another $5000 for Augusta it would make first rate feeling all round. I beg you to do it if you possibly can. It will save us trouble if not you. Some of our friends are astounded at what you did for Dr. E.T. in Washington!! They don't know what to think. But if you can make out $10,000 for Augusta it will relieve wonderfully.

2d That you may know how good a case this Augusta enterprise is, I enclose a few leaves from Siegfried's book. I also send you the book itself. S. is a rare man. He is working nobly, and deserves encouragement as you will see. He had his book nearly in type before I knew it. A more genial, hearty, catholic-spirited worker, it would be hard to find. What you invest in him will by God's blessing pay large returns.

very truly
