BUREAU R. F. & A. L.
M.-39-Vol.1 1870

Office Superintendent of Education, Virginia,
Richmond, Va., June 6 1870.

Dear General

Please give consideration to my official communication today asking for $800.00

The reason why I have $4000. left is not that I have built few school houses, for I have built many. It is that I have made the people do so much toward the creation of their own houses, averaging from half to two thirds the cost.

The site of the house is half a square from the Jeff Davis mansion in the most conspicuous place in the city, and yet retired 1/2 a square from any public thoroughfare.

I was sorry to see you apparently much worn and weary. I beg you not to let the ungodly persecution of wicked men trouble. You are safe in the final favorable judgment and esteem of good men.

Yours Truly
R.M. Manly
