Dear Sir, 
On the night of Dec 1st a party of boys from Mr James. H. Horners school started out, as one had said, boastingly, to "wake up Oxford."
They proceeded to tear up bridges, take gates from their hinges, breaking & tearing off fence boards & palings. Went to Mr T Hargroves house, shouting "we're democrats, we're democrats," entirely destroyed the fence about this yard, cursing, hallooing, & firing off guns or pistols. They then made an attack upon my school building, shooting into it, breaking the windows, throwing in stones, &c, one ball
