This element of the fantastic might be better understood in the light of some [[strikethrough]] fantastic [[/strikethrough]] speculations, [[strikethrough]] which exist [[/strikethrough]] from a science fiction novel called The Time Stream by Eric Temple Bell, the late professor of mathematics at the California Institute of Technology. Oddly enought Bell conceives of five pillars, [[strikethrough]] just as [[/strikethrough]] which are similar to Judd's [[strikethrough]] conceived [[/strikethrough]] conception of five [[strikethrough]] vertical pillars [[/strikethrough]] verticals. These five pillars are the support [[strikethrough]] ing [[/strikethrough]] the structure of Bell's idea of parallel world's of time. [[strikethrough]] Time for Bell has a uncanny strange materiality, in other words a second exists as an entire solid state [[?]] surface. [[/strikethrough]] Judd's five pillars seem to belong to such a [[strikethrough]] surface solid -state. Here is a quote from the book, which conveys something of the mood of Judd's work [[/strikethrough]] detacthed dimensionality.
