Sir:
Referring to your endorsement of the 5th instant, on letter of Mrs. Mary Jane Hickman of Newberne, N.C., requesting information of Lewis Jarman, alias Lewis Duffy, who is said to have passed through Newberne during the war with U.S. Troops, and is supposed to have been enlisted in the Army, I have to inform you that the Rolls of North Carolina colored regiments have been examined and no record of the man in question, found.

It is possible he may have been an officer's servant.

No information in regard to him can be
