Office of Trustees and Superintendent of Colored Schools,
Stevens School Building, 21st Street, bet. K and L,
Washington, May 19, 1871

Maj. Genl. O. O. Howard,

Dear Sir:

In consequence of the erection of new school buildings, the Trustees of Colored Schools will soon have a quantity of old school desks (pine) and small chairs for which they have no further use.

I am authorized to say that these will be donated to any colored schools in this vicinity where they may be needed.

Applications for such furniture were formerly frequent. If you know of any place where it is wanted, please inform the parties concerned, or myself, and oblige

Yours truly
A. E. Newton
Supt. Col. Schools
