Specifications for the construction of "Straight University" on a plot of ground "4 feet by 13" feet situated on the corner of Esplanade and Derbeguey Sts. in the city of New Orleans La. for education of Education of Refugees and Freedmen.

The general arrangements and dimensions to be all in accordance with drawings made by Sam'l. P. Haggart, Architect.

The trenches shall be dug a sufficient depth to receive the brick footings, those for the outside walls, and piers to be 4 bricks, the chimnies 5 bricks, and those under the outside galleries, and chapel galleries shall be 3 bricks footings, all to be diminished in regular offsets of 2 inches, each course in all sides to the top of ground, there to be carried up the thickness shown on the plan, a sufficient height to make the first floor 9 feet above the level of the barquette when finished.

The chimnies to be carried up with 5 feet breasts, arched for the accommodation of Stores in the Chapel and prepared to receive grate in the recitation rooms, on the first story, and classrooms on the second floor. The floors shall all be smoothly parqetted, and neatly topped out above the roof.

Two privy sinks to be built in the rear, each 4 feet wide, and 12 feet long, the walls to be ½ brick thick laid in cement 18 inches above the ground, and 4 feet 11 inches below the level of the ground.

All the above shall be of good hard brick laid in sharp sand and fresh lime mortar.

Proper and sufficient foundation of bricks shall be built 3 feet above the ground, for two Cisterns of 3000 gallons capacity
