Maj Genl. Howard,
Sir,
I again take the liberty of penning
you a few lines requesting you to 
inform me how the Col. schools
of Maryland will be supported this
term. I wrote to you the beginning 
of last term (that is) Sept 1870, as
the Trustees of Graham School Eastern
Talbot Co Md, requested me to take
charge of their school. The wages
offered me was that I should receive
10 cts per week for each scholar.
I could not teach conveniently more
than 40 pupils by their irregularity. 
I was prevented[strikethrough] not permitted 
to obtain $16 per month. I am anxious to
to labor for them but being 
obliged to depend upon my labor
for a livelihood. I must work
