War Department, Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands. Washington, Sept. 13th, 1865. This is to certify that I have carefully examined the physical condition of Isaac Craig (colored) Aged 70 years, & find him suffering from Otorrhea. I find also several scars upon his head, & swellings accompanied with pain upon pressure, on the right side of the body, which are apparently the result of injuries received within a recent period. He states that the above mentioned injuries are the result of a violent personal assault which was made upon him, on Aug 15, 1865, & in my opinion his present condition is such as would be produced by that cause. (signed) Robert Reyburn Surg U.S. Vols & Surg in Chief D.C. Bureau RF & AL I concur in the above. (signed) Caleb W. Horner Surg U.S.V. Chief Med Officer A true copy S.N. Clark Lieut. & A.A.A. Genl.
