THIS INDENTURE, made this day of in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and [[strikethrough]] sixty [[/strikethrough]] Seventy, between Oliver O. Howard and Elizabeth A. Howard, his wife both of the city & county of Washington and District of Columbia, of the first part, and D.L. Eaton & George W. Stickney, Trustees, of the same city & county of the second part.

Whereas, the said parties of the first part are justly indebted to the Freedmen's Saving's and Trust Company [[strikethrough]] in the sum of [[/strikethrough]] Approved [[strikethrough]] held [[/strikethrough]] March 3d 1865, in the sum of twenty four thousand Dollars ($24,000.00) for which amount they hold the promissory note of the said Oliver O. Howard, of even date herewith for the sum of twenty four thousand dollars ($24,000.00) payable twelve months after date with interest at the rate of ___ per centum per annum.

And Whereas, the said parties of the first part, all desirous to secure the full and punctual payment of said note and all interest, costs and expenses that may accrue thereon, according to the true intent and meaning of the same:

Now, therefore, this Indenture witnesseth, that the said  parties of the first part, in consideration of the premises, and of the sum of one dollar to them in hand paid by the said parties of the second  part, at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained and sold, aliened, enfeoffed, conveyed and confirmed; and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell, alien, enfeoff, convey and confirm unto The said parties of the second part, their heirs and assigns forever, the following described Real Estate situate in the County of Washington, District of Columbia to wit: Lot number Eleven (11) in Block number four (4) in the Sub Division of the farm of John A Smith made by the Howard University, situated on the Seventh Street Road, north of and adjoining the City of  Washington, according to the plot thereof, filed in the office of the Surveyor of the District of Columbia, reference to the same being hereby made, the said lot containing one Acre more or less.
