Dear Sir,
Our cause here is doing well. Much interest is manifested by the Freedmen. My School numbers one hundred and forty and is gradually increasing. Thanksgiving night I spoke for the colored people and collected thirty six dollars to finish paying for the stove and lumber. I hope by the commencement of the New Year to have my house very comfortable. I rented a nice brick house of a citizen this morning. Can keep it as long as I wish it. Mr. Anderson will occupy a part of the house with me. I do not get possession of it until 1st Jan. Have paid the rent in advance so it is a sure thing. Meet with no opposition whatever and I am treated respectfully by some of the lawless and there is a great many of them here. Last Tuesday
