Nov. 9, 1943 Dear Hedda, It's early in the morning now, I drop you just a few lines in a hurry. I'm writing in the corner of a Table crowded with shirts and socks and everything, we have a couple of extra beds in our regular 3 beds room so it's crowded and dirty. One of the boys is still sleeping and he snores. The Chinese number one boys brings in the "bottle juice" that's said in Chinese and means water. The chinese brandy (horrible stuff made with rags probably) is called "air raid juice" (ching-pao-juice) because it's good in case of air raid.
