Sept 1. 1944.
My dear Hedda dear, I'm back now and I found here lots of your letters and I was happy to read them and unhappy to see that you won't write me any longer because you think I'm in my way home already and as you see today is the first of September and I'm still here- I'm in a most complicated situation and I'm disappointed like hell. The thing may come any day as it was supposed to up to now but I'm sorry because I was supposed to leave today and I can't because a final O.K. from The Navy hasn't arrived yet, just red tape, so I lost one ship and I have to wait for another. My situation is complicated because I'm Navy attached to the Army and [[strikethrough]] a [[/strikethrough]] on top of it in temporary duty here, dettached [[detached]] from Chuupking. So all my papers have to pass thru Washington via [[strikethrough]] Chiana [[/strikethrough]] China and finally to me thru a couple more channels like Navy liaison etc. All this is terribly
