Takaezu - 1 - 57

Takaezu: But yet, you notice the best piece I have is the small one, the one that the Met took. So it has everything in it. And it doesn't mean that because it is big, it is good. The feeling that I could expound, that I could make something big too, you know? And not just small, but to let myself go and see if I could do that. It's kind of a challenge. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's better, but like the forest, I like to be in part of it. I like to be able to go in and out if I have an exhibition, that you become part of it. Like the forest. And I don't know if it's ego that you make things big, but I'm not too sure, but it's kind of a challenge. And when you have an exhibition, it gives you impact that's greater when it's bigger. And then the kiln is big, so you know you could exercise something big. And to make something big is really a challenge, because it is hard work.

Q: I know that.

Takaezu: The last piece I made, I made it in the kiln.

Q: Actually constructed it there?

Takaezu: Half way. And I had another person help me lift it in and I made it in the kiln, so that when it's finished, I don't have to lift it. Now I can make a bigger piece in the front kiln if I want to.
