GRAND CENTRAL ARTS GALLERIES
GRAND CENTRAL TERMINAL
15 VANDERBILT AVENUE
NEW YORK

VANDERBILT 3648
CABLE GRANDART

June 19, 1928

Dear Mr. Tanner:

At the trustees meeting held at the Engineers' Club last week it was definitely decided on the recommendation of the management of the Galleries to hold a large annual exhibition of the works of our artist members every Fall, this exhibition to occupy our entire Gallery space.

It is our intention to have every artist member represented by one example of his work which should be the finest thing that he has done, and it is also our intention to give this exhibition nation-wide publicity. There will be a large reception inaugurating the exhibition and tea will be served two afternoons a week during the entire period.

Three cash prizes of $1000 each have already been offered for this fund as follows: Mr. Walter L. Clark gives $1000 to be known as the President's Prize and to be awarded for the finest example of figure painting: Mr. Irving T. Bush, our Treasurer, contributes $1000 for the finest work in sculpture; Mr. Frank G. Logan, Vice-President of the Chicago Art Institute and one of our Trustees, gives $1000 for the finest landscape, or marine, or still-life. Other cash prizes may be added to this list before the exhibition, which will probably be held early in November.

It is the hope of the Grand Central Art Galleries to make this exhibition the most important showing of American Art in the country, and we are writing you well in advance so that you will either create or reserve the finest example of your work for this exhibition. The management would like to add that the prizes will be awarded for artistic merit and quality rather than for size or sensational subject, and that it is expected that this will be an important selling event as well as an exhibition of high artistic achievement.

You will be advised of definite dates later.

Yours very truly,
Erwin S. Barrie
Manager.
